On the eve of the new year, Vow Green Metals visited Tata Steel’s IJmuiden plant, while attending the European Biocarbon Summit 2024 in Amsterdam.

The VGM team in Amsterdam consisted of Håkon Nøstvik and Sindre Göran. The title of this year’s event was “Helping heavy industry and transportation to decarbonize with biomass” and featured more than 30 expert speakers, lively panel discussions and an insightful tour of Tata Steel’s IJmuiden plant.

Interesting facts about Tata Steel Ijmuiden (Source: Tata Steel) • The IJmuiden site employs over 9,200 people. All, in all 11,500 people work for Tata Steel Netherlands. • The Tata Steel site measures 750 hectares and is spread over 3 municipalities: Velsen, Beverwijk and Heemskerk. The surface area of the site is equal to about 1,100 football fields. • The plant has its own 80 km road network and 100 km railway network, in addition to its own gas pipeline and electricity network, and no less than 55 kilometers of conveyor belts. • Every day, large ships dock at the plant’s quays to deliver raw materials. One ship may contain as much as 170,000 tons of raw material. • Tata Steel IJmuiden produces 7 million tons of high-quality steel every year
